Anthony J. Cafiero

The Law firm of CAFIERO LAW continues the tradition of performing legal services with competence and excellence. A successor to The Law Office of Cafiero & Balliette, the firm was first established by its founder Anthony J. Cafiero in 1931.

He was the son of a Philadelphia barber and began his work career at the age of 10 when joining the family business. Anthony worked as a barber and bellhop in downtown Philadelphia prior to moving to North Wildwood, New Jersey in 1921. He opened his own real estate office and was appointed to serve as the City of North Wildwood Treasurer prior to putting himself through law school in Newark, New Jersey.

Anthony returned to the Wildwoods and began his private law practice during which time he was appointed to serve as Clerk to the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders and, on two occasions, as the Cape May County Delegate to the State Constitutional Conventions that revised the New Jersey Constitution. Anthony went on to serve as a Cape May County Prosecutor, State Senator, Judge of the New Jersey Court of Common Pleas, Superior Court Judge and Assignment Judge for the State of New Jersey presiding over Cape May, Atlantic, Cumberland, Burlington, Gloucester and Salem counties. He diligently and conscientiously performed his duties and positively contributed to the New Jersey legal system for five decades.

1954

James S. Cafiero

For the past 62 years that Jim Cafiero has been practicing law, he has focused on real estate transactions, real estate development, wills, trusts and estates, estate administration and all variety of business transactions. In his legal career he has served as Assistant Cape May County Prosecutor, New Jersey Counsel of the Delaware River and Bay Authority and as Solicitor of the City of North Wildwood and numerous other Cape May County municipalities, boards and agencies.

In addition to his legal career, Jim Cafiero also served as an elected member of the New Jersey Legislature from the First Legislative District which is comprised of all of Cape May County and portions of Atlantic and Cumberland Counties. He served as the First District's Assemblyman from 1968 to 1971 and as the First District's State senator from 1972-1981 and again from 1990-2003.

While in the Legislature, Jim served as the Senate Republican Whip, Chairman of the Senate Senior Citizens, Chairman of the Senate Women's Issues, Children & Family Services Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee and as Chairman of the Joint Appropriation Committee in 1972. Additionally he also served on the Veteran's Affairs and Human Services Committee, the Senate State Government Committee and the Senate Coastal Resource and Tourism Committee.

Jim Cafiero graduated from the Lawrenceville School in 1946. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton Univerisity 1946 and Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1954. Also in 1954 he was admitted to the practice of law in the State of New Jersey. At the firm, he succeeded its founder, the Honorable A.J. Cafiero.

Andrea Balliette

Andrea Balliette was educated at Eden Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rosemont College in 1959. Thereafter, she continued her education at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and earned her Bachelor of Law Degree in 1962.

After graduating from Penn, Andrea served two clerkships; first with Toner, Crowley, Woelper & Vanderbilt in Newark, New Jersey from August 1929 tp April 1963 and, secondly, from 1966 to 1967 with her father and the founder of the firm, the Honorable Anthony J. Cafiero, AJSC at the time when Judge Cafiero was Superior Court of New Jersey Assignment Judge for Cape May County. After her clerkship with Judge Cafiero, Andrea joined the firm in 1968.

Throughout her career Andrea Balliette has focused her practice in the areas of wills, estates, and eldercare and today her practice is limited solely to those areas. As a result, Andrea has a particular expertise in assisting clients with their estate planning needs, explaining the tax consequences that they face in an environment of ever-changing healthcare laws and regulations.

Andrea Balliette is a member of the Cape May Technical School Advisory Board. From 1995 throught 2009 she was a member of the Rowan University Board of Trustees. She served on the Middle Township Board of Education from 1970 to 1990, was a Member and Past President of the Cape May County Schools Boards Associations and a Member of the Educational Improvement Center-South.

1990

Andrew J. Cafiero

Andrew J. Cafiero was born and raised in Cape May County. He has been practicing law in New Jersey for more than 30 years. Mr. Cafiero graduated from Muhlenberg College located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He pursued his legal studies at Thomas Cooley Law School located in Lansing, Michigan. Andrew has been with the law firm of Cafiero Law, P.A. since 1990.

Andrew currently serves as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Wildwood and the Borough of Avalon. He maintains a private practice specializing in personal injury, business law, school law and real estate. Andrew has diligently and effectively handled hundreds of personal injury claims during which time he has obtained substantial and well-deserved monetary recoveries for his clients.

Mr. Cafiero was the Solicitor for the Wildwood School District from 2004 to 2017 during which time he handled many complex issues involving students, teachers, administrators and the District.

Andrew served faithfully as the Public Defender for the Borough of Wildwood Crest from 1993 to 2017. He also served as Public Defender for Dennis Township between 1992 and 1994.

Mr. Cafiero is admitted and qualified as an attorney of the New Jersey Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third District and the Supreme Court of the United States. He also has been a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, New Jersey State Bar Association and Cape May County Bar Association.
